Glocester's 87th Annual 4th of July
Ancients & Horribles Parade

Thursday - July 4, 2013 at 4:00pm
Starting from the intersection of Routes 100 & 98 (Money Hill Road and Steere Farm Road)
and ending at Acote's Field on Putnam Pike in Chepachet.

Participants registering will be eligible for prizes if they report to the staging booth between 9:00am & 12:00pm or across from Abby's Restaurant on Money Hill Road between 12:30pm-2:30pm on the day of the parade and prominently display their registration number on their parade entry (auto, float, cart, etc.). You must have a number to be judged. All participants must sign a waiver of liability.

    Note: Late registrations after 12:00pm on July 4th may march in the parade, but will be ineligible for trophies and awards. All participants must sign a waiver of liability to participate.


  • Parade Float Fire Safety Requirements
    Important information from the Chepachet Fire Department
  • No drugs or alcohol are permitted. Any entrant visibly impaired will be referred to the Glocester Police Department.
  • Parade entrants must use common sense and decency in planning a parade entry. This is a family event, and parade organizers reserve the right to refuse an entry on any reasonable grounds.
  • No entrant may throw, spray, or shoot etc. any water, liquid, mud or other material at other entrants or spectators.
  • No fireworks may be used or distributed by participants before, during, or after the parade while in the designated route areas. The use of fireworks on the parade route will not be tolerated.
  • Any motorized vehicles must be operated by a licensed driver. All vehicle and operator laws apply to entrants. ATV's and motor cross off-road dirt bikes are NOT acceptable entries into the parade.
  • An entry in the section of Farm Tractors will allowed as long as the "Farm" tractor is roadworthy and safe as deemed by Parade Chair and/or Designee; the tractor must be operated by a licensed operator of at least 18 years of age.
  • Large floats are required to have a functioning fire extinguisher onboard.
  • Entrants must keep their staging area clean. Bag and carry out what you bring in.


  • To be considered for awards, all parade participants in the categories listed below must be registered and display an entry number (to be distributed the day of the parade).
  • Entrants are not eligible to receive more than one award.
  • All children participating in the parade will receive commemorative ribbons.
  • THE FOLLOWING ENTRIES WILL COMPETE FOR 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PLACE TROPHIES. Entries are judged on originality of theme, costuming, special effects, construction, artistic work, and crowd appeal.

Large Float:

any float built on a flat bed trailer

Small Float:

any float built on a pick-up truck, pick-up with trailer, farm truck, farm truck with trailer

Patriotic Vehicle:

any vehicle with a patriotic theme

Walking Group:

any group of two or more people

Mobile Unit:

driven by an individual 16 years old or older; lawn tractor, lawn tractor with small trailer, van, motorcycle, group of motorcycles

Ugly/Horrible Truck:

any farm, forest, or custom assembled UGLY vehicle

Decorated Bicycle:

any entry of one or more bicycles having a single theme

Classic/Ancient Car:

any classic or antique car

Farm Tractor:

any roadworthy farm tractor


Most Ancient:

any entry referring to, representing, or depicting anything old

Most Horrible:

any entry referring to, representing, or depicting anything horrible

Most Politically Incorrect:

any entry relating to a national or local political topic

Best Current Affairs:

any entry relating to a topic of interest in the local or national news

Funniest Overall:

any entry that's ... well, funny

Most Patriotic Walking:

any age group; must involve a patriotic theme

Parade Committee Award:

any entry the committee chooses to single out for our petty, subjective reasons


the most outstanding and crowd-appealing non-commercial entry
